NASCAR: Kansas starting lineup if qualifying is canceled

Kansas Speedway, NASCAR – Mandatory Credit: Amy Kontras-USA TODAY Sports Take a look at the provisional starting lineup for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway if rain washes out qualifying again. The NASCAR Cup Series is set for the first of its two annual trips to Kansas Speedway this weekend for the AdventHealth 400.Qualifying for Sunday afternoon’s 267-lap race around the four-turn, 1.5-mile (2.414-kilometer) Kansas City, Kansas oval is scheduled to take place at 5:50 p.m. ET on Saturday evening. As of now, there is only a 9% chance of rain, according to The Weather Channel. However, rain is expected the day before and on each of three days after, including race day, unfortunately, so the forecast could always change. If qualifying is canceled, the metric would set the starting lineup, as we have seen multiple times so far this NASCAR Cup Series season. The metric factors in four variables: the driver’s finish in the most recent race, the car owner’s finish in the most recent race, the team’s rank in the owner standings, and the rank of the driver’s fastest lap in the most recent race. The first two categories are weighted at 25% each, meaning that they form one category weighted at 50% for drivers who drive the same cars each race. The third category is weighted at 35%, and the fourth is weighted at 15%.In the event that it does rain and qualifying can’t take place, here is what the starting lineup will look like.Provisional Kansas Starting Lineup1st – Ross Chastain2nd – Martin Truex Jr.3rd – Denny Hamlin4th – Ryan Blaney5th – Christopher Bell6th – William Byron7th – Tyler Reddick8th – Brad Keselowski9th – Chris Buescher10th – Josh Berry11th – Kevin Harvick12th – Ricky Stenhouse Jr.13th – Ty Gibbs14th – Chase Elliott15th – Kyle Busch16th – Bubba Wallace17th – Corey LaJoie18th – Erik Jones19th – Austin Cindric20th – Michael McDowell21st – Kyle Larson22nd – A.J. Yeley33rd – Brennan Poole34th – Noah Gragson35th – Ty Dillon36th – Josh BilickiIf qualifying isn’t canceled, the drivers in the even positions are set to qualify in reverse order in the first group, and the drivers in the odd positions are set to qualify in reverse order in the second. So Live Fast Motorsports’ Josh Bilicki would make the first qualifying attempt in group one, while Spire Motorsports’ Ty Dillon would make the 19th qualifying attempt overall and first in group two.The fastest five drivers in each of the two groups advance to the shootout for the pole position. This shootout determines how the top 10 line up. The remainder of the starting lineup is set based on round one speeds, irrespective of group.Begin a free trial of FuboTV now and don’t miss Sunday afternoon’s AdventHealth 400 at Kansas Speedway!
