Major Downtown Street Closures Start Tonight As NASCAR Moves In: Here’s What You Need To Know

DOWNTOWN — Major street closures on DuSable Lake Shore Drive and Michigan Avenue starting Wednesday night ahead of the weekend’s NASCAR Chicago Street Race will make it difficult to get around. DuSable Lake Shore Drive’s southbound lanes between Balbo Drive and Roosevelt Road will close starting at 8 p.m. Wednesday ahead of the street race Saturday and Sunday through Grant Park. At 10 p.m. Wednesday, DuSable Lake Shore Drive lanes between Monroe Drive and McFetridge Road will close. DuSable Lake Shore Drive’s northbound lanes from McFetridge Drive to Randolph Street will close at 5 a.m. Saturday. Michigan Avenue’s northbound lanes between Balbo Drive and West Jackson Boulevard will close at 8 p.m. Thursday, followed by the closure of Michigan Avenue’s southbound lanes between Balbo and Jackson drives at 10 p.m. Thursday.The major thoroughfares will be closed for several days. Vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and scooters won’t be able to use the street during the closures, but the Lakefront Trail will remain open. DuSable Lake Shore’s northbound lanes will reopen late Sunday and southbound lanes will reopen on the Fourth of July.Michigan Avenue’s southbound lanes will reopen late Sunday and northbound lanes will reopen Wednesday, July 5.
